The 7 Influences of the ÓS Creative Renaissance

<——– Return to the Design Talk

The transformative period of the Renaissance was inspired by many influences coming together -  Here we share an introduction of our 7 key influences that just as then, now are foundations for Rebirth — Collectively and Individually ✧

Space:

In the Renaissance, intentional and intellectual spaces became hubs for cultural exchange. Salons, workshops, and public squares facilitated the convergence of diverse minds, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and creativity.

How can we create space for deep listening, exploration, and the sharing of thoughts and emotions?

“The spaces we co-create, re-create us”

Community:

Thriving communities of artists, scholars, and patrons in cities like Florence and Venice contributed to the Renaissance’s cultural vibrancy through their voice and use of their tools. Collaborative efforts and communal support propelled the era’s intellectual and artistic achievements.

The essence of the human experience is found in our connections with one another, sharing joy, love, and building memories.

“There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about”

Art:

The Renaissance witnessed a profound revival of the arts. Masterpieces and inventions by renowned artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo reflected a renewed interest in classical forms, pushing the boundaries of creative expression.

Through creativity we can solve new challenges, change our perception of the world for the better, and highlight the inward significance inherent in all things.

“Art is a transformative expression that expands our imagination of what is possible”.

Self-Inquiry:

Knowledge and Ideas such as Humanism fueled a curiosity about the self and a deeper understanding of human nature. This introspective approach encouraged individuals to question traditional beliefs and explore their own thoughts and identities.

Self-inquiry is a key aspect of exploration and actualization. It involves asking challenging questions, diving into one’s depths, and fully accepting ourselves; & in turn others.

When we cultivate self-knowledge and discover what we truly desire, we can then begin to direct the self and in turn take control and agency for our lives.

Ritual:

Inspired by ancient traditions, rituals bring symbolic meaning to daily life. Whether religious, social, or cultural; rituals provide a sense of order and significance in the midst of societal and artistic transformations.

Ritual is the act of re-creating the way we interact with the world around us. Practices such as honoring our time contribute to more intentional relationships, communities, and the use of our energy.

“Rituals are the formulas by which harmony is restored”

Mindfulness:

The Renaissance period saw the revitalization and introduction of ancient philosophy and classical wisdom into the modern psyche. It emphasized the human experience and a more considerate approach to life.

Mindfulness is a foundational spiritual practice that connects us with the heart. Through  practicing self-compassion and loving kindness, we can contribute to a more conscious and just society for all.

“Mindfulness gives you time. Time gives you choices. Choices, skillfully made, lead to freedom”

Nature:

Nature served as a wellspring of inspiration for Renaissance artists and thinkers, as it does today. Realistic depictions of landscapes and anatomy reflected deep dives into the natural world, echoing the reverence for the divine inherent in nature.

Nature, an infinite source of wisdom, reflects the divine and teaches us of the importance in every season and cycle - ultimately revealing the interconnectedness of all existence.
