Sharing Art for the Earth

While writing the blog post “Recognizing the Nature Within”, I came up with this question that greatly challenged the way I wanted to go about the things that I love to do and that I’m good at. 

A paraphrase of this question is: What can we do to make a positive impact to the world without radically changing our lives?

Because its definitely no option to stay put and continue ignoring our disconnection from nature.
Because to leave everything behind and dedicate our entire lives to the cause, its an option that also ignores the real change we can do here, now. 

Personal Answer

After connecting the dots in various introspective sessions, I became sure that I wanted to do something that would benefit non-profit organizations both economically and in terms of awareness/promotion. Then, it was natural to pair this initiative with this e-place of mine and with the art that I love to do.  
So I decided to both include talks surrounding altruistic initiatives in my blog and donate to these charities a percentage of the profits from the art that you buy from me. 

That said, here are the details of my idea.

One Tree Planted

After doing a list of the best and most reliable non-profits I could find on the internet, One Tree Planted got my attention for its tangible action and its simplicity in cause. As the name says, we’re literally talking about $1 for 1 tree.
Later on, through Charity Navigator I learned that, in 2018, they planted 1.3 Million trees, restored 2,500 acres of natural habitat, and worked in 13 countries! 

Why didn’t I know about them earlier?!
After asking myself that I started to draw something that could represent and promote this awesome cause, and this is what I did. (I saved some of the drafts in a “moment” on my Instagram)

Sticker Talk

I had the initial idea of doing two hands giving focus to a seed emanating a presence of light. After getting the outline of those two elements, it occurred to me to include a background of mountains, a river, the sun, and a sky as a way to give emphasis on nature and its elements. That’s when I also included that circle enclosing the upper side of the seed to add warmth and light (and also to be able to include the sky, of course)

As of the seed, the central part of the piece, my intention was to maximize its power. From bottom to top, the roots that are already coming out from it represent this vision of growth and manifestation of fertility. Next, the patterns inside the seed includes an subtle helix at the beginning, followed by intertwined shapes that connect from top to bottom, and a center eye of light where this halo connects. At this point, almost accidentally, this seed also started to resemble a vagina, which I thought it added more power to the element. After that, I added this little ball of light at the top to represent its inner energy that is ready to germinate. 

On the other hand, the hands were also really fun to draw. From top to bottom, we have balls of light coming out of its fingers that represent intention, power, action, and care. I purposely connected the little finger’s light to the seed in form of a wave to symbolize connection and shared energy. Next, the orange squares coming from both of the hands signify the transmutation from intention to action; the hand’s giving power.   

What Now?

Yesterday I ordered 50 of them & for each sticker sold, one tree will be planted through the “One Tree Planted” organization. Each sticker will be $4.99 USD with the tree already included, so spread the word, start saving those dollars, and stay tuned on the release date through my Instagram.

Also, I have plans to do a survey to get your input on the next charities to help out, and also to improve and expand this awesome process of Sharing Art For The Earth.

Mientras escribía la publicación “Reconociendo la naturaleza interna”, se me ocurrió una pregunta que desafió enormemente la forma en que he abordado las cosas que me encanta hacer y en las que soy bueno. Una paráfrasis de esta pregunta es: ¿Qué podemos hacer para hacer un impacto positivo en el mundo sin cambiar radicalmente nuestras vidas?

Porque definitivamente no es una opción quedarse y continuar ignorando nuestra desconexión de la naturaleza.

Porque dejar todo atrás y dedicar toda nuestra vida a la causa, es una opción que también ignora el cambio real que podemos hacer aquí, ahora.

Después de conectar los puntos en varias sesiones introspectivas, me aseguré de que quería hacer algo que beneficiara a las organizaciones sin fines de lucro tanto económicamente como en términos de conciencia/promoción. Entonces, fue natural emparejar esta iniciativa con este espacio mío y con el arte que amo hacer.
Así que decidí incluir en mi blog conversaciones sobre iniciativas altruistas y donar a estas organizaciones benéficas un porcentaje de las ganancias del arte que decidan comprarme. Dicho esto, aquí están los detalles de mi idea.

Después de hacer una lista de las mejores y más confiables organizaciones sin fines de lucro que pude encontrar en Internet, One Tree Planted llamó mi atención por su acción tangible y su simplicidad en la causa. Como su nombre lo dice, estamos hablando literalmente de 1 dólar por 1 árbol.
Más tarde, a través de Charity Navigator, supe que, en 2018, plantaron 1.3 millones de árboles, restauraron 2,500 acres de hábitat natural y trabajaron en 13 países.

Después de hacerme la pregunta, comencé a dibujar algo que podría representar y promover esta increíble causa, y esto es lo que hice. 

Plática Sobre el Sticker

Tuve la idea inicial de hacer dos manos llevando el enfoque a una semilla que emana una presencia de luz. Después de dibujar estos dos elementos, se me ocurrió incluir un fondo de montañas, un río, el sol y un cielo como una forma de dar énfasis a la naturaleza y sus elementos. Fue entonces cuando también incluí ese círculo que encierra la parte superior de la semilla para agregar calor y luz (y también para poder incluir el cielo, claro)

A partir de la semilla, la parte central de la pieza, mi intención era maximizar su poder. De abajo hacia arriba, las raíces que ya están saliendo de ella representan esta visión de crecimiento y manifestación de fertilidad. A continuación, los patrones dentro de la semilla incluyen una sutil hélice al principio, seguida de formas entrelazadas que se conectan de arriba a abajo y un ojo central de luz en donde se conecta este aro. En este punto, casi accidentalmente, esta semilla también comenzó a parecerse a una vagina, la cuál consideré que agregaba más poder al elemento. Después de eso, agregué esta pequeña bola de luz en la parte superior para representar su energía interna que está lista para germinar. 

Por otro lado, las manos también fueron muy divertidas de dibujar. De arriba a abajo, tenemos bolas de luz que salen de los dedos representando intención, poder, acción y cuidado. A propósito, conecté la luz del dedo meñique a la semilla en forma de onda para simbolizar la conexión y la energía compartida. Luego, los cuadrados anaranjados que provienen de ambas manos significan la transmutación de la intención a la acción; el poder de la mano.

¿Ahora que?

Ayer ordené 50 calcomanías y por cada una vendida, se plantará un árbol a través de la organización “One Tree Planted”. Cada calcomanía costará $4.99 USD con el árbol ya incluido, así que corre la voz, comienza a ahorrar esos dólares y estáte atent@ a la fecha de lanzamiento a través de mi Instagram.
